St. Louis Cardinals
Historically, the Cardinals are the most successful team in this division. Therefore, the fans are used to winning. Now, this makes some people label them as assholes or elitists. A lot of this vitriol is because of the idea of Cards fans being the "Best Fans in Baseball. " How do you measure this? Each fanbase has its good and its bad. I would argue that the Cards fans are more good, but no one team is above the boos and drunken insanity. Let us not forget - the label of best fans was given to the Cards fans by a national sports publication, they did not invent it. They just ran with it. Sure, it is a bit arrogant. But you know what? If a porn star told me I had the biggest penis she'd ever seen, even if it wasn't true, you'll be damned sure I'd wear that on my t-shirt. The name of this blog would be "17 Inches of Wit" and I'd legally change my name to Phallus Johnson. So, forgive the Cardinal Nation. The truth is, your average Cards fan is no different than any other fan, except that they cheer for the right team.
Chicago Cubs
I'll preface this by saying I am in no way biased against the Cubs. I will give you a fair and balanced examination of this group of rabblerousers and roustabouts. First off, I have to give this to Cubs fans - they sure do show up to games. For a team that hasn't won anything in a long time, they do sell tickets. Can't hate 'em for that. I mean, they go for the social aspects of the game more so than the actual games, but good for them. They love their Cubbies so much, they even try to have a tenth fielder at times:
In all seriousness, the Cubs fanbase has been through a lot. They really do embrace that Lovable Loser label with enthusiasm and a strange love for Ron Santo. The truth about Cubs fans is that if they ever did win anything of note, they wouldn't know what to do with themselves. They'd probably try to riot, but it wouldn't get too far because the people throwing bricks in windows would suddenly need Tommy John surgery.
Milwaukee Brewers
For the past few years, the Brewers have been that "it" team on the cusp of the postseason. Alas, it has not come to pass. Let me lay out why it sucks to be a Brewers fan. Your team leaves the AL which has been a more competitive league for quite some time. You enter the NL Central, a division that has been up and down, but at its "down" it was really bad. You had hope leaving the AL, and you can't even crack the playoffs in the NL. You open a new stadium, and the most exciting thing happening in said stadium is a race between people in sausage suits. However, it isn't all shitty at Miller Park. The Brewers do have a talented young team, and the fans have shown support. Sure, Prince Fielder weighs about 325 lbs. Sure, your best young pitchers (Sheets and Capuano) are more fragile than JD Drew. The truth about Brewers fans is that they are patiently waiting for something good to happen, and if it doesn't happen, well, the entire town smells like beer.
Tune in next time for the final three fan bases in the NL Central. Keep it real, sportsfans.
